I went to school before 1999, should I really be required to keep up on this sort of thing?
Yes, you should. The Speaker of the House is a very important position. Were the president and VP to die, for example, the Speaker would become president. Hastert is very low-profile and gets much less media attention than former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, but structurally the Speaker is more powerful. Americans should know who the Speaker is. And it's been the same person for 7 years (almost twice as long as Newt Gingrich was Speaker). Has it really been that long since you checked?

Don't expect this to be updated any time soon, if ever, but yeah Boehner is the Speaker (though that might last much longer...).
Maybe topical questions like these should be removed so they don't become inaccurate over time? I agree it's good to know it, but as it is most of the questions are about the government structure anyway; not the current officials.
